Bedroom Window Treatments: 10 Styles To Try In Your Home

Master Bedroom Window Treatments

Bedroom window treatments are one of the most elementary decoration things that you need to do to give your room a personality. There are different bedroom window treatment ideas and it totally depends what you want in your bedroom. Here’s a list of simple bedroom window treatment ideas to help you get started.

Curtains

One simple bedroom window treatment ideas are of course curtains. You can select the style, color and pattern as per your liking. Curtains are generally made of light weight fabric and can be hung from curtain rods or curtain rings and installed just above the window frame. Curtains come in different lengths and you need to measure the length you require for your window treatment.

Drapes

Generally people think that drapes and curtains are the same. But when we talk about bedroom window treatments they can be said to be similar but not the same. Drapes are generally made from heavier fabric, lined, pleated and are hung on a traverse rod with a string so that it can be easily closed and opened. Drapes are generally not required for a bedroom window treatment. However, if you want a more formal kind of look you can go for drapes in the master bedroom window treatments. Drapes are also a good option in cold climate as the thick fabric gives a warm and cozy feel to the bedroom. Select blackout drapes and you get to keep daylight and cold weather both out.

Sheers

Sheers are great window treatments for bedrooms giving a decoration element. But remember, they don’t give you much privacy or shade from the sun. Sheers are commonly used in small bedrooms to add sunlight and to make the room appear large. This is a great kids bedroom window treatment or a young girl’s bedroom treatment with little frills and soft decoration.

Blinds

Blinds come in the segment of modern window treatments for bedroom and they just about give you everything from privacy to sunlight block out etc. Blinds are made from hard materials like wood, metal, or even vinyl. They have slats or louvers from which these long pieces of blinds are fitted and then adjusted by strings to monitor the amount of light in the room. Blinds also come in different styles like Venetian, mini and vertical and can be hung vertically or horizontally.

Shutters

Shutters are an old style of bedroom window treatments and are simply a solid wood door that is inserted within the window casement or frame on hinges that allows the door panels to open the window. The shutters can additionally have small blinds that can control the amount of light you want in your bedroom.

Shades

A popular idea for bedroom window treatments is shades. They control the amount of light that comes in the bedroom and has many different decorative alternatives. Shades are made of fabric that are cut to the shape of a window frame and is pulled up and down by a string through a pulley type of system. Many people prefer shades over blinds since you can literally play around with styles and materials right from bamboo, cellular, pleated, solar, roller and many more.

Valances

Valances are a decorative element for window treatments. It is basically used to conceal the overhead hardware. Valances are patches of fabric that are placed on the top of a window frame and can be pleated, arched, gathered, shaped or mounted. They’re added to give the dramatic effect and are commonly used in master bedrooms, parlors and living rooms.

Cornices

These are sleek and hard window treatments that are padded box shapes layered with paint, wallpaper or fabric. They are mounted above the window to conceal overhead hardware. The bottom of a cornice can be shaped and trimmed in different ways. It is more of a formal window treatment and can be customized to give the complete bedroom décor.

Swags and Cascades

Swags and cascades are the casual type of bedroom window treatments. They are similar to valance and are generally draped over horizontal rods in folds adding some decorative element to the window and also hide the overhead hardware.

Cascades are fabrics that drape down in a zig zag format to the floor. They are generally used underneath or over swags, curtains or shades.
